Intentions
There are few direct intentions forged onto these canvases; there are only interpreted stimuli of reflected energies. At times I make personal, political, historical statements more directly. Though currently I try to step aside from “theme” and let the inner awareness of the energies aspect today drive the intentionality of my media work and expose it to the viewer. Tomorrow these aspects will differ. We change every year, season or day… even minutes. So too the creative expression.
I try to capture that which is perceived in the moment; in coexistence with the environment, people and energies. A reaction is developed through my surroundings impressing upon my conscious/subconscious and then expressed through organic symbols. These symbols are formed by energies as they fade in nature through the extant moment of interaction of self and world. Stimulating an understanding of the world through a trial of recognition, an expressed awareness of the three dimensional and other dimensional energy. What imagery that emerges through swirling layers of sensation form on the canvas as a personal subjective expression.
Energies bound forth constantly from all things giving allowance for continuous interpretation. My work is a representation of this, treating my perception, as a concavity, sucking up energies, and as they swirl in my being they fall into place on the media. Thus developing into approachable connotations. The body struggles to adapt all sensation into this personal language of representative figures, textures and connection. All the while, the natural imperfections of sense and conversion, of ebb and flow, these sensed aspects fall into my world of expression.
I confront the world through an exploration of the layers of these found energies. There is a detachment in my work from the basic routine walk through life. A need in me to develop a raw understanding, and the desire to coalesce it determines the composition of my work. The transformation of stimuli, the raw energies, into delicate strokes and layering permeates the sculptural canvas. The layered aspects calling out the myriad energies. Waning melancholic drippings, that disperse in time, feed a warmth to the organs of sense.
Nudes are often present in my works. When I take a break from these current exposures of energy and other thematic works, I return to nudes. An approachable subject that both artist and audience can engage with. I often undertake studies of the human form alone in many media and varied contexts. Then I started placing them within these environments of layered perception, harmonized in mandalas and expressive in these aspects of life. As mechanisms of expression, connection and attraction they provide a humanization of the energy exposures and their interaction, transformation upon the self.
Bringing out the viewer’s own subjective integration through my works should provoke an awareness of their own desires to recognize a commonality through symbolic force . You see what you want to see.
